Longleaf Landowner Stories: The Family Forest
When Blaine Morton retired from the Valero Houston Refinery at the age of 62, he decided he needed a project and a place for his family to gather. "The Farm" was just that place - 252 acres of his own little paradise. Blaine's most recent project was to work with Texas Longleaf Team to plant 54 acres of longleaf pine. This is his story.

Simon Winston is restoring Longleaf Pine to his ranch near Nacogdoches Texas. Simon has received technical and financial assistance from many sources including the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, the USDI FIsh and Wildlife Service, the National Wild Turkey Federation, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Texas Longleaf Taskforce. SImon uses frequent prescribed burns to create favorable wildlife habitat and enhance the longleaf ecosystem.
